About LakeAmerica.ca

LakeAmerica.ca is an independent website tracking the proposal to rename Lake Ontario “Lake America” — what was said, what it means, and what happens next.

Why this site exists

The phrase “Lake America” entered the news cycle after U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States was considering using the name for Lake Ontario. Because Lake Ontario is shared by Canada and the United States, the proposal immediately raised questions about geography, naming authority, maps, politics and whether anything had actually changed.

LakeAmerica.ca was created to keep those answers in one place.
